What is Art Clay ?

Art Clay is an innovative, eco-friendly material from Japan that lets artists create fine jewellery with ease. Made from fine metal powders, organic binders, and water, it transforms into solid, 99.9% pure silver after firing.

The Art Clay series includes high-quality silver, copper, bronze and gold clays. When fired by kiln, torch, or gas stove, the binders burn away, leaving pure metal: 99.9% silver, over 99.5% copper, or 22K gold.

Easy to shape like traditional modeling clay, Art Clay can be dried, refined, and fired to produce one-of-a-kind metal pieces.

Art Clay Product Series

Art Clay Silver

Standard type series that you can fire as low as 650°C and up to 800 °C. The most popular type among all Art Clay series.

Art Clay Silver 950

This series is formulated for professional use. This alloy metal clay is approx. 60% stronger than the standard type series after firing.

Art Clay Silver ST

The ST (Slow Tarnish) Series is the ideal choice for creating gifts or display pieces, as it tarnishes up to 10 times slower than standard Art Clay Silver.

Art Clay Copper

It can be fired in an electric kiln with or without carbon, producing a final piece that is more than 99.5% pure copper. (In its clay state, the copper content is approx. 90%.)

Art Clay Bronze

Art Clay Bronze contains 90% alloy powder (90% copper, 10% tin) in its clay state. When fired in a carbon-reducing atmosphere, it fuses into solid bronze.

Art Clay Gold Clay

Viscous liquid for adding texture or drawing on fired Art Clay Silver, ceramic, porcelain or glass. Contains 77.5% 24K gold (by weight), which becomes 22K gold after firing.

Art Clay Gold Paste

Water-based gold clay, modeled like other Art Clay products. After firing, it becomes high-quality 22K gold with approx. 15% shrinkage.

Art Clay Paper Type

Art Clay Silver Paper Type can be bent, folded, or quilled like Origami. Use a craft punch, scissors, cutter, or quilling bar to create consistent 3D structures with ease.

Overlay Silver Paste

It bonds to non-porous or glazed surfaces like ceramic, porcelain, and glass, allowing for detailed Silver Overlay drawing on these materials.

Firing Magic: How clay becomes solid metal

Clay Form

Clay contains fine silver powder, water and binder. Can be formed while still soft.

Drying

Moisture in the clay dries out and the clay gets harder.

1st stage firing

Binder burns away and fine silver powder starts the sintering process.

After firing

Silver particles solidify completely and become more than 99.9% silver.

Basic Steps of Working with Art Clay

Step 1: Shape

You can freely roll and shape the clay.

Step 2: Dry

Dry with a hair dryer or dehydrator.

Step 3: Prefinish

Treat the surface by sanding and filing.

Step 4: Fire

Fire in a kiln, gas stove or microwave kiln.

Step 5: Polish

Polish with a stainless steel brush, polishing cloth.

Step 6: Finish

The completed piece is pure silver(99.9%).

Is Art Clay safe to use?

Art Clay Silver have been certified as AP seal products by ACMI (The Art and Creative Materials Institute, Inc.) which is an international association of about 200 art, craft and creative material manufacturers which seeks to promote safety in art and creative products through its certification program.
